Dad really, really enjoyed football. He was a staunch supporter of the Hilltops, Huskies, Roughriders, Chargers and earlier the Vikings. He also was an avid player, and played in many a weekend "pick-up" game at the Cumberland park in Saskatoon. He was particularly dangerous on the hook and post patterns. He attended many of my high school football games.
When I went home in October to check on things I walked into the house and Dad had two different footballs games playing at the same time. He didn't have the best hearing. He was watching the Roughriders on tv, and he had the stereo on downstairs tuned to the local am radio station that carried the Huskies games. The decibel level was unbelievable! I was able to tune in the game on his mac so he could listen to both without blowing the windows out of the house.

A Love Story - Joyce
At 4-H calf club we went around and showed our calves, we trained them, bobbed their tails etc. We were about 6-7 years old when we started in 4H while living on the farm. I started showing at exhibitions when I was 12 years old. I was a pretty good at showing.
Bob and I attended the same 4-H shows. I took correspondence school for high school. Bob and I would be at exhibitions at the same time. We met here and spent weekends going to dances.
Bob and I 'hooked up' at Kay Sutherland's wedding. Bob was dating my roommate at the time. We had a romantic weekend and had to keep our love under wraps until he broke it off with his other girl.
We were about 19 years old when we started courting. We were about 22 years old, before we could afford to get engaged so we both worked. I was teaching at Bueno Vista in Grade 1, and Bob was working for extension division at U of S. My first year of teaching was at Dundurn then I got on city staff in Saskatoon.
We went to a Saturday night dance to celebrate our engagement. All around Saskatoon were rural schools and that is where we would go for the dances.

Humble
The only times I remember dad taking the spotlight was during our dance-offs. He was very good at staying in the background and supporting his family in all sorts of situations. Family was always his priority. We had many great trips with mom and dad, starting with the trip to Jasper to meet Lindsay and Stacia for thanksgiving. Dad loved a good road trip.
He also loved a good meal. So many of our good memories revolve around an excellent meal, although I think maybe it was the company that made for the good times. The meal was the reference point for our failing memories! Tonight we will have one of dad's favorites, steak and lobster.

The First Time I Laid Eyes On Bobby
In the early days of courting Brian, I was invited to spend a Saturday afternoon at the Brack household at 1405 10th St.
Back then Brian drove an orange, 2 door pick-up Datsun. The plan was for Brian to come to the U of S residences, pick me up and we would spend the afternoon at the Brack home. I had also been invited by Brian's parents to stay for supper and enjoy a delicious meal of Beef Stroganoff. ( Now that sounded like such a fancy meal!)
Brian called to say his Dad was out doing some errands using the truck. It would be later in the afternoon when Brian could come to the residences. So I decided to walk to downtown Saskatoon to fill the time.
As I was walking down College Dr, the orange Datsun drove past heading towards Cumberland Ave. Bobby was driving and in the back were large white pails with colored items in them.
Later that evening, it was confirmed, yes that was Bobby coming home from an auction - a bathroom store had closed. Bob had learned from Ann Schulman about the Saturday morning auction. The gallons and gallons of 'soap balls' that Bobbi bought at that auction, supplied Brian and I with soap for the first 10 years of our marriage.
And that was the first time I laid eyes on Bob Brack.
